DESCRIPTION: The Chicago Medical Center Office and Laboratory is a five-story medical building with a penthouse and basement. The building is roughly 180,000 square feet and was constructed in 1969. There are three passenger elevators serving floors 1-5 and the basement. Globetrotters provided architectural and engineering services for the emergency modernization of the three passenger elevators which were original to the building. The final design provided systems that are code compliant with all existing and impending elevator code requirements. The project included improvements to the machine room, lobbies, elevator pit, and other building spaces related to elevator operation. The work provided new elevator machines, controllers, electrical cabinets, and energy efficient components. The elevator cabs were equipped with audio visual communications systems that are monitored by building staff to notify occupants of emergency communications.
