DESCRIPTION: The Decatur Clarifier Conversion project replaces the treatment facility’s two existing clarifiers with two 71’-6”diameter, single stage helical upflow solids contact clarifiers. The improvement increases capacity from 18 MGD to 20 MGD in a much smaller footprint. This innovative approach increased treatment capacity and improves space utilization by consolidating multiple stages into one unit. Additionally, the SCC system enhanced operational efficiency and sustainability by reducing energy consumption and operational costs, as it eliminated the need for several electrical components. By implementing the innovative and cost-effective SCC system, the City of Decatur is not only protecting the public interest in regard to safe drinking water, but also setting a new standard for responsible, forward-thinking engineering.
