DESCRIPTION: The Illinois Department of Transportation, in conjunction with the Iowa Department of Transportation and under the jurisdiction of the Federal Highway Administration, launched its first ever Planning and Environment Linkages Study of I-80 Over the Mississippi River, which then led to today’s I-80 Mississippi River Bridge project. The study covers approximately six miles and includes the bridge connecting Illinois and Iowa over the Mississippi River. After repairs and rehabilitations over the years, the bridge was reaching the end of its useful life, and the early-phase study was launched to begin identifying solutions.
