Description:The historic Pratt Thru Truss was constructed in 1901 and is considered one of the very few wrought iron bridges left in existence in Illinois. Detailed analysis of the structure and abutments was required to assure structural integrity for conversion into a pedestrian/bicycle facility. Highlights of the finished product including the IPE timber deck and the aesthetics of the rehabilitated structural steel and ornaments, turned out better than anticipated. After construction, the bridge immediately looked as if it had been designed as a pedestrian bridge all along.
