Description: Runway 9C-27C consists of more than 800,000 square yards of concrete pavement, the equivalent of 870 Olympic-sized pools of soil, 36 miles of drainage pipe, and 236 miles of lighting and fiber optic cable. The 11,245- foot long runway includes two full-length parallel taxiways, four high-speed exits and six connecting taxiways. A. Role of Entrant’s Firm in the Project HNTB served as the lead engineer for the project. We were responsible for airfield geometry, airfield electrical, FAA Navigational Aids (NAVAIDS), grading, earthwork, structural and construction phasing. We also led the team’s efforts for construction phase support. As a key partner, HNTB helped the airport identify a viable site for a new United Airlines employee parking lot. We also were able to re-phase portions of the project to expand the original work scope to upgrade the exist[1]ing North Airfield Lighting Control Vault.
